The Number of CEU Hours Required for Massage Therapists By State:

What does CEU mean in massage? A continuing education unit (CEU), sometimes referred to as continuing education (CEs) or continuing education credits (CECs), measures the amount of continuing education offered by a course. Usually, one credit or unit is equivalent to one hour of education.

Expect More

The Brookbush Institute offers 180+ online continuing education courses (500+ contact hours) developed from comprehensive systematic research reviews in pursuit of an evidence-based, systematic, integrated, patient-centered, and outcome-driven approach. We did not build this company to promote techniques that "work." We have spent more than a decade developing a system of integrating systematic research reviews, comparing outcomes in practice, and integrating colleague feedback to ensure we are only educating on the most effective techniques. It is our mission to optimize the delivery of education for our colleagues and continue the development of a model that results in unparalleled outcomes.

All Brookbush Institute courses are pre-approved for continuing education credits (CEs) for massage therapy license renewal (NCBTMB provider #1315). Further, we know that a combination of manual techniques, corrective exercise, and strength training is a potent mix for improving quality of life, health, and fitness. Because all of our courses are included in one membership and simultaneously count for CEs and certification, we can provide an opportunity for massage therapists to expand their practice, help their clients more, and potentially open new opportunities for career growth. Every course can be completed on desktop or mobile and includes multiple formats to provide the best learning format for wherever you are (live webinar, closed-captioned videos, text with audio voice-over, illustrations, practice exams, credit-worthy final exams, and certificates). Want to get credit during a canceled appointment? Just pull out your phone or laptop, and we have you covered.

Why the Brookbush Institute

  • Unparalleled Accuracy of Information: The Brookbush Institute is the only comprehensively evidence-based education platform in the industry. We know that our colleagues want to be better, help more, and deliver unparalleled results, so they need the most accurate information available. The most accurate information can only be achieved with a systematic approach to developing evidence-based courses. That is why every course we offer is built from a systematic review of all available peer-reviewed and published research, with a focus on improving practical application. With the Brookbush Institute, you never have to decide which "expert opinion" you "believe" when two or more courses contradict (which is all too common on other platforms). Although science slowly evolves over time, and our conclusions may be refined, you can be assured that the content we provide is the most well-supported conclusion that could be developed at the time of publication, based on research and outcomes, not expert opinion.
  • Designed to be the Education Platform All of Wish Existed: All Brookbush Institute certifications are offered with an innovative system of modular courses, iterative testing, and credits (no summative final exam). Our courses include video, illustrations, audio, and text to ensure the learner has the format that they prefer wherever they are. Listen to courses in the car, watch close-captioned videos during breaks at work, or study the text and take notes at home. We are also incredibly passionate about making it comfortable to study from your phone so that you can sneak in study time at any time. Our goal is to develop the most accessible, flexible, and convenient education platform ever.
  • Affordability and Access are Part of our Mission: We are the only education provider in the industry to include our certifications in a true monthly (or yearly) membership plan. This reduces the initial cost of certification to just 3 - 5% of comparable certifications, and you can cancel anytime.

What our members are saying

great content

I have been a massage therapist for 10 yrs and I feel like all the “pieces” I’ve learned throughout the yrs have been put into place and can see the full picture. I am also a member to tons of great content since I love to learn! I plan to get my CPT through them as well.

convenience and affordability

Totally loving the convenience and affordability of this program with my crazy lifestyle! I feel like I am getting a quality education without a massive cost! My favorite part is the videos I can watch in the courses. I learn so much better that way. Once I really spent more time on the site, I figured out how to maneuver around a lot better! I enjoy the sense of humor, as well as the easy explanation, and short tests. And if I am really tired, I can have the computer read me the lessons. 😁

incredibly helpful

Brookbush has been incredibly helpful since I was in massage school and now as I’m in my career! I run my own practice and it gives me the resources I need to not only improve what I already know, but also help me navigate better, more efficient ways of treatment.

Stellar coursework

Over the last years I've returned time and again to Brookbush Institute for stellar coursework as I've worked toward a Human Movement Specialist certification. (I'm currently ACE CPT, and in training with Anatomy Trains for Structural Integration Manual Therapy.) Every Brookbush Institute module is fantastic and each one includes detailed informational videos, written descriptions of how to-do, and, more importantly, why to-do!

We Think About Continuing Education Credit Approval (So you don't have to)

Currently, the only solution we are aware of to reduce the accreditation confusion problem and help our colleagues with their continuing education and certification needs is to build a massive accreditation portfolio. That is, we do the research to determine which accreditations are necessary, acquire as many accreditations as we can to ensure everyone is covered, and ensure that our colleagues can demonstrate continuing education and certification completion with documentation that is accreditor-compliant.

False Narratives, Nocebo, and Negative Expectations do NOT affect Manual Therapy Outcomes: Research Confirmed

False Narratives, Nocebo, and Negative Expectations do NOT affect Manual Therapy Outcomes: Research Confirmed

Research Confirmed: Messaging, expectations, and treatment preference may have an inconsistent effect on the perception of pain induced by a manual therapy technique (e.g. how painful an acupuncture needle feels), but no significant effect on post-treatment outcome measures (e.g. pain during motion or functional outcome measure scores). Further, stress and catastrophizing are unlikely to have a significant effect on outcomes; however, it may be advised that joint manipulations are not performed when stress/catastrophizing is high. Stress is likely to be highest during session 1 and decrease with subsequent sessions, and matching a patient's assessment findings to the best treatment option significantly improves outcomes, regardless of expectations.
