Definitions:

  • Manual Therapy: Manual therapy, or manipulative therapy, is any physical treatment that involves a practitioner using their hands or bodies to affect tissues with the intent of treating a patient's musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. In contrast, self-administered techniques can be performed by the patient without the assistance of a practitioner.
  • Integrated Manual Therapy: An evidence-based, systematic approach that selects and combines the most effective manual and self-administered techniques to optimize patient outcomes.

Why Build a New Functional Orthopedic Manual Therapy Certification?

The Integrated Manual Therapist (IMT) Certification was built to help our colleagues achieve more reliable and effective outcomes. Too many manual therapy certifications were founded with the goal of teaching a particular method, school, or technique, despite time and research resulting in the development of more effective approaches. The Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT) Certification was built to be the first evidence-based, systematic, integrated, patient-centered, and outcome-driven approach. Rather than start with techniques, this certification started with systematic research reviews, a clinical decision model, and a systematic approach to developing intervention plans. The selection of techniques resulted from the analysis of randomized control trials (RCTs) and comparisons based on reliable, objective outcome measures. This ensures our colleagues will not waste time learning less effective techniques and can focus on mastering the techniques that most reliably result in the largest effect sizes. In short, the Brookbush Institute did not intend to build a system "that works"; we intended to find the approach that "works best," and we continue to develop in pursuit of that goal.

Better Delivery Too:

The Integrated Manual Therapist (IMT) certification is pre-approved for continuing education credits (CECs) for all of our manual therapy colleagues, is the industry's best-reviewed certification, and is the only manual therapy certification approved by the American Council of Education . But, the best part may be that it is included in the only true monthly membership model in the industry (cancel anytime), with an online platform designed for on-the-go access, an iterative testing and credit system designed to fit any schedule, with multiple media formats designed to accommodate any learning style. For more information visit "The "Real Cost" of Manual Therapy Certifications ". We have one goal: build the education company our colleagues wish existed.

What our members are saying

thoroughly detailed explanation

We learn principles in academia, we learn cool new modalities via whatever specialty certification, but BBI really concentrates on the nuances of passive treatment and they do a fantastic job. The format in which BBI instructs soft tissue specialists (DPTs, Chiros, ATs) like myself feels like almost like an apprenticeship. You get a thoroughly detailed explanation of the “why’s”, and a visual comprehension of how to apply. Personally, I believe application is where the good and the great are distinguished.

convenience and affordability

Totally loving the convenience and affordability of this program with my crazy lifestyle! I feel like I am getting a quality education without a massive cost! My favorite part is the videos I can watch in the courses. I learn so much better that way. Once I really spent more time on the site, I figured out how to maneuver around a lot better! I enjoy the sense of humor, as well as the easy explanation, and short tests. And if I am really tired, I can have the computer read me the lessons. 😁

education is invaluable

I have my personal trainer certificate through here and am almost finished my human movement specialist certification. Overall, the education that Brookbush has packaged together for clinicians and trainers is invaluable. I am a physio assistant so coming from more of a rehab background I appreciate that this education has been beneficial both as a trainer and in a rehab setting. I love that I have been able to do all learning at my own pace and able to work around my schedule. Thank you for setting up this platform! Highly recommend :)

incredibly helpful

Brookbush has been incredibly helpful since I was in massage school and now as I’m in my career! I run my own practice and it gives me the resources I need to not only improve what I already know, but also help me navigate better, more efficient ways of treatment.

We Think About Continuing Education Credit Approval (So you don't have to)

We Think About Continuing Education Credit Approval (So you don't have to)

How We Are Working to Fix This for Our Colleagues: Currently, the only solution we are aware of to reduce the accreditation confusion problem, and help our colleagues with their continuing education and certification needs, is to build a massive accreditation portfolio. That is, we do the research to determine which accreditations are necessary, acquire as many accreditations as we can to ensure everyone is covered, and ensure that our colleagues can demonstrate continuing education and certification completion with documentation that is accreditor compliant.

Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) is Relatively Ineffective: Research Confirmed

Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) is Relatively Ineffective: Research Confirmed

Research Summary Statement: The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) available that compare pain neuroscience education (PNE) to other interventions imply that PNE is unlikely to be more effective than biomedical education, and is unlikely to result in additional benefit when added to supervised manual therapy, exercise, and/or the combination of other effective interventions. Further, the addition of manual therapy and exercise to PNE reliably results in significant improvement in patient outcomes, implying that PNE alone cannot be considered an optimal treatment approach. The addition of PNE to a home exercise program may enhance patient outcomes (perhaps due to enhanced effort and compliance during exercise). Last, PNE does reliably improve Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) scores; however, the validity of this finding and/or correlation with other recovery outcome measures is questionable.
