Welcome to the Brookbush Institute CPT Portal

The purpose of this exam is to certify individuals who can design and instruct safe and effective exercise programs to assist in achieving health, fitness, strength, and performance goals. This is a standalone personal trainer certification exam that has been developed in accordance with the accreditor's guidelines and is separate from the other credentials and education provided by the Brookbush Institute. Individuals who have completed Brookbush Institute education do not receive points or credits that would affect their exam scoring.

What is the difference between the "Brookbush Institute Certified Personal Trainer Certificate (BI-CPT)" and the "Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) Certification"?

Brookbush Institute Certified Personal Trainer Certificate (BI-CPT): The BI-CPT is an advanced credential awarded by the Brookbush Institute that reflects mastery of an evidence-based, systematic, client-centered, and outcome-driven approach to personal training. It is earned through an innovative credit-based and iterative testing process delivered on the Brookbush Institute’s proprietary online platform, and can only be completed with an active membership to BrookbushInstitute.com.

Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) Certification: The CPT certification exam is a standalone assessment, developed in accordance with accreditor guidelines, to verify that candidates meet the minimum competency standards for certification. This exam is entirely separate from all Brookbush Institute educational programs and credentials. Completion of Brookbush Institute courses does not provide points or credit toward exam scoring. The CPT credential is earned solely by passing a proctored exam, available either online or in person.

Who is eligible to take the exam?

Individuals who believe they have the knowledge and experience to pass an exam designed to differentiate between the "minimally qualified candidate"e; and someone who lacks the knowledge to safely and skillfully work as a certified personal trainer (CPT). This may include:

 • Individuals who have studied materials to prepare for an accredited CPT certification exam.
 • Currently practicing certified personal trainers (CPTs) who are current with their continuing education.
 • Individuals who have recently passed an accredited CPT certification exam.
 • Motivated candidates who are scheduling the exam in anticipation of preparing for the exam in the coming weeks or months.

Preparing for the exam:

Prepare for this exam as you would any standardized, proctored examination (e.g., SAT, GRE, board licensure). Although it may be delivered outside a school setting and on your own computer, it remains a formal, proctored assessment and must be approached accordingly.

Compliance notice:

Non-compliance may result in immediate termination of the exam by the proctor, and forfeiture of the attempt and exam fee.

Retake Policy:

Candidates who fail the exam may retest after a 7-day waiting period. After a second failed attempt, the waiting period increases to 30 days. After the third attempt, all subsequent attempts require a 90-day waiting period between exams. Waiting periods are measured in calendar days.

Candidates must submit an accommodations request at least 30 days before the exam and provide any required documentation.
