Muscular System

The muscular system produces force and moves the skeletal system. All muscles play a role in joint actions, acting in multiple planes to accelerate, stabilize, and decelerate movement. Synergistic muscle groups work together for ease of analysis. Learn more about the function of the muscular system.

Muscular System: The function of our muscular system is to produce force and move our skeletal system. All of the muscles that cross a joint will play a role in all joint actions. All muscles act in multiple planes to concentrically accelerate, isometrically stabilize, and eccentrically decelerate movement. All muscles work best in the direction of their fibers. By action, function, or neural innervation some muscles act synergistically, and for ease of analysis may be viewed as “functional groups.”
