Glossary Term

Unilateral

Unilateral exercises are those that are performed with one side of the body at a time. These exercises help to improve muscle imbalances, increase stability, and prevent injuries. Examples of unilateral exercises include the single-arm dumbbell press, single-arm suspension rows, lunges, and single-leg deadlifts. Synonyms include one-sided, asymmetrical, and single-limb.

Unilateral: Pertaining to one side of the body. For example, the pictured variation of a suspension row is being performed "unilaterally" (with one arm at a time).
