Antagonists

Antagonists are the muscles that oppose the prime mover and synergists for a given joint action. They perform the opposing joint action and work in opposition to the agonist muscles. For example, the triceps are antagonists to the biceps during elbow flexion. Understanding the function of antagonistic muscles is important for developing effective workout routines and preventing injury.
