Recovery Time

Recovery is the time to return to pre-exercise (pre-intervention), pre-intervention, or pre-injury values. Generally, this is measured in days but may be measured in minutes, hours, or weeks.

Recovery Time: Time to return to pre-exercise (pre-intervention), pre-intervention, or pre-injury values. Generally, this is measured in days but may be measured in minutes, hours, or weeks.

  • Although this definition may initially appear obvious, comparative values must be defined (pre-intervention) to ensure accurate interpretation of data. For example, if a post-event range of motion (ROM) was an outcome measure, it could be compared to pre-event ROM, ROM of motion of the contralateral limb, or optimal ROM based on normative data (population averages). Recovery time would imply that the ROM was compared to the ROM prior to the event.
